UMPI students present Halloween-themed Fit and Fun Day

Published:

University of Maine at Presque Isle Physical Education majors will present a costume-wearing, fun-having, fit-getting day of games and smiles when they host the 22nd semi-annual Fit and Fun Day Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, Oct. 24 at UMPI’s Gentile Hall. Local children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to participate in this free event. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and those who arrive early will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity in the Art Corner.

Fit and Fun Day is designed to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles for local children, while at the same timing allowing Physical Education students to practice their teaching skills. PE majors have been hosting these twice-yearly events for more than 10 years.

“Fit and Fun is an awesome event,” Adam Begos, one of the UMPI PE students organizing the event, said. “If you’re a kid in grades K to 5, we’d love to have you join us as we promote FUN physical activity here in Aroostook County! Fit and Fun is the best way to spend your Saturday morning, so don’t miss it!”

Various tag games, team activities, and cooperative activities are just a few of the ghoulish games on the event schedule. If the weather permits, kids may have the opportunity to participate in an activity outdoors, so plan to dress accordingly. Sneakers are a must for participation in this event, costumes are encouraged, and all are welcome to bring their own snack. Water will be available for all participants throughout the event, as well as complimentary coffee and tea for adults.

For those adults wishing to get in a little physical activity themselves, Gentile Hall’s state-of-the-art track will be available, allowing guests to walk with an almost unimpeded view of the gym so they can watch their child take part in this fantastic event, all while modeling a healthy lifestyle.

At the conclusion of the event, the pool and the rock wall will be available from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Students who plan on taking advantage of the facilities will need to bring a swimsuit and towel, and parent/guardian supervision is required. Parents need to sign a release form, provided during registration, in order for their children to use the pool and rock wall.

Athletic Training students will also be on-site for “Boo Boo Patrol” while ensuring all participants stay hydrated and safe throughout the event.

This spooktacular event is sure to provide children with a fun-filled morning. For more information, call Christine Standefer at (207) 768- 9457 or email christine.standefer@maine.edu.
