Published:

Get ready for an exhilarating night filled with entertaining music variations by powerhouse a cappella group Backtrack when the group comes to the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m. This fun-filled performance will take place in the Auditorium in Wieden Hall and is free and open to the public.

This award-winning, five-person singing group founded in 2013 is based out of New York City, where they test the limits through vocal arrangements, tight harmonies, and world-class beatboxing. The group pushes the limits of a cappella, creating impressive covers of past and present pop music, writing inspiring original compositions, and daring to take on unexpected genres such as classical and electronic music.

Backtrack appeared on The Steve Harvey Show in 2017. The group won the 2016 YouTube Next Up competition and was described by Business Insider as one of the “34 up-and-coming YouTube stars you should be watching right now.”

Backtrack has performed around the country at concert halls, festivals, universities, high schools, and private functions. They have performed at well-known venues, such as Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theater, and the Beacon Theater. The group is very dedicated to inspiring America’s youth about the world of a cappella and performing arts. They demonstrate this passion at a cappella competitions, like the Wyvern International A Cappella Festival. They have showcased at a cappella festivals, such as the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella and SingStrong NY. They also provide workshops to children around the nation.

In addition to their more than 9 million views on YouTube, the group has received several accolades, including: 2017 winner of Steve Harvey’s Sing Off, Best Beatbox during the 2017 International Championship of A Cappella OPEN (Final), and Audience Favorite at the 2017 Aca-Challenge (First Place).
