UMPI receives top rankings from U.S. News and World Report

Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned four top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the 30 Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 20 Top Public Schools in the North, the top 20 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt, and the top 50 Regional Colleges in the North for Social Mobility.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present its first-ever virtual Homecoming festivities from Sept. 14 to 20, featuring activities such as a virtual trivia night, roundtable discussions, and a virtual version of the Snowy Owl Marketplace.

One hundred and seventy-three students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle during the 2019-2020 academic year. On Saturday, May 9, during the University’s 111th Commencement and first-ever virtual Commencement ceremony, President Rice conferred degrees upon the graduating students.

Five hundred and four students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester, according to Dr. Ray Rice, UMPI President and Provost.

With the health and safety of the campus community as its top priority, and with major themes of support, response, and personal accountability in mind, the University of Maine at Presque Isle announced today its Safe Return Plan for the fall semester.

A team of University of Maine at Presque Isle faculty members and students have begun work in the Zillman Family Greenhouse on a research project funded by a $12,333 USDA Specialty Crops Block Grant. The project aims to support Maine potato growers by enhancing the competitiveness of potato rotation crops through cropping system innovations.

With a new faculty member on board, a learning space in the works, and connections with employers in the region being established, the University of Maine at Presque Isle is on schedule to begin delivering a high-demand bachelor’s degree program this fall, its new B.S. in Health Administration.

One hundred and sixty-six students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday, May 9, during the University’s first-ever Virtual Commencement Ceremony—held to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2020 despite a public health situation that precludes large, in-person gatherings. During the 111th Commencement ceremony, UMPI President Raymond Rice conferred degrees for the 2019-2020 academic year upon this year’s graduating seniors, who had the opportunity to participate in the ceremony via UMPI’s Youtube channel.

For identical twins Melanie and Rebecca Griffin, graduating from college in three years has been all about getting to careers they love while having as many enriching experiences as possible along the way.

Because of the COVID-19 healthcare emergency, students in the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the University of Maine at Augusta are graduating early and are eligible to begin work this week.
