Campus Safety and Security

Welcome to the Campus Safety and Security Office, where we are committed to ensuring the health and safety of our students, staff, faculty and their guests. The office, staffed by a certified law enforcement officer with full powers of arrest, is recognized by the Maine Chiefs of Police and the Maine Criminal Justice Academy as a Police Department. In addition to the full time Coordinator, the office is staffed by student employees who routinely patrol the campus both during the day and evening. They are radio dispatched and have the authority to stop any individual to determine if they may be of service to the person. They also work closely with the Residence Life staff and frequently act as backup to assist their efforts to keep our campus safe and secure.  These staff members are not authorized to carry weapons. The office provides coverage for the approximately 1,200 students who attend classes at either the campus in Presque Isle or the Houlton Center, located at 18 Military Street in Houlton.

Most UMPI campus buildings and facilities are accessible to the campus community, guests, and visitors during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Specific information concerning University safety policies can be found in the in the links on this page. Additional information is available from the Coordinator of Security and Safety.
