International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an academic process, culminating in tests, originating on the secondary level (high school). IB markets itself as “quality education for a better world.” Its mission is as follows:

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle recognizes IB and is committed to supporting students who have achieved excellence in the IB program. Faculty will evaluate exams from the Higher Level which may lead to college credit.

Notify the IB Organization to have the official score transcripts sent to the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Registrar’s Office, 181 Main Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Higher Level examinations need a score of 5 or better. The University does not grant credit for Standard Level IB Examinations.
