Gentile Hall Women’s Fit Night to support breast cancer awareness

Published:

The staff at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s health and wellness facility will be hosting a breast cancer awareness event with a twist, and a climb, and some boot camp when they offer a Women’s Fit Night on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4-6:30 p.m. in Gentile Hall. There will be a $5 entrance fee at the door and all women in the region are invited to attend. Held in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

This very special Women’s Fit Night is being organized by Keli Marston, UMPI’s Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, and Amanda Baker, UMPI’s Recreation Program Coordinator. Marston explained that the Gentile Hall staff has done a breast cancer awareness event for the past three years and wanted to find a new way to join the community in celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as the disease has touched so many lives.

“We wanted Gentile Hall, which is dedicated to health and wellness, to be a place for women to gather, have fun, and enjoy some fit activities while supporting an important cause,” Marston said. “This is a great time to hang out with the ‘girls’ and participate in climbing the rock wall—if you have never done this before, it is a great time to try it out with only other women around—and getting your heart rate up during a Fit Camp session.”

“Women take so much time out of their lives to take care of others, so this Thursday night, we want women to come and participate in a healthy and fun event that will also make them feel good about donating to a most worthy cause,” Amanda Baker, Gentile Hall Recreation Program Coordinator, said.

This all women’s fitness night will include rock wall fun with Baker from 4-5:30 p.m. and a Fitness Boot Camp with Marston from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Afterward, smoothies, giveaways, and a Fit Bit Zip raffle will be available.
