Dorm Trick or Treating, Haunted House taking place Oct. 24

Published:

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will serve up a night of fun and frights with its annual Dorm Trick or Treating event and—new to the evening—an asylum-themed Haunted House, all taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Dorm Trick or Treating will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in Merriman and Park Halls. The Haunted House, which is rated PG-13, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Campus Center.

The 23rd annual UMPI Trick or Treating Night offers children 12 or under the chance to trick or treat in two of UMPI’s dormitories, with halls decorated for the occasion. All children must be accompanied by an adult. While kids from around the community are participating in Dorm Trick-or-Treating, older visitors will have the option to walk through the Haunted House, filled with UMPI students acting in the event, for a hair-raising time. The Haunted House is being sponsored by the Student Activities Office and Residence Life.

The evening gives community members of all ages the opportunity to connect with UMPI students in fun and frightful settings. While the Dorm Trick or Treating event is free, any donations for those taking part in the Haunted House are greatly appreciated and will go toward the cost of putting on the event.

“I don’t think a haunted house event like this has been done at UMPI, as least not for a while,” Violet Washburn, Coordinator of Campus Engagement and International Student Services, said. “It’s a great new way for people to have fun during the Halloween season.”

Parking for these events is available in the Library parking lot. The Haunted House is not recommended for children under 13; high school and college students and community members are encouraged to attend.
