UMPI hosts Maine Archaeological Society fall meeting

Professional and avocational archaeologists from Maine and farther afield will gather at the University of Maine at Presque Isle next month when it hosts the Fall 2011 meeting of the Maine Archaeological Society [MAS] on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. The meeting will be held in the UMPI Campus Center from 12:45 to 8 p.m.

UMPI’s Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Dr. David Hart

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host Dr. David Hart, Director of the Senator George J. Mitchell Center and the Research Leader for Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative, as the next speaker in its 2011-2012 University Distinguished Lecturer Series.

Dr. Hart will speak at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Campus Center about Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative: Linking Knowledge with Action to Create a Brighter Economic, Social and Environmental Future.

UMPI hosts management courses for the fall semester

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will be offering two courses this fall beginning Monday, Sept. 26 and Wednesday, Sept. 28, respectively, as part of its American Management Association’s certificate programs. The course registration deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 21.

UMPI announces Educator of the Year, Distinguished Alumni awardees

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will honor two alumni with awards of distinction during its Homecoming 2011 activities the weekend of Sept. 23-25. The annual alumni award presentations will be made for the first time during the State of the University Address by President Don Zillman, which will take place on Friday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. in the Campus Center.

UMPI Introduces Casciano and Heidorf as New Basketball Coaches

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Jim Casciano and Marc Heidorf as the program’s new men’s and women’s head basketball coaches, respectively. Casciano also serves as the Assistant Athletic Director, while Heidorf takes on the role of Sports Information Director.

Photographer Jason Grass to host signing for new book

University of Maine at Presque Isle alumnus and photographer Jason Grass will present his latest book Living in Color, Dreaming in Black and White during a book signing event on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Owl’s Nest, located in the University’s Campus Center.

OAPI announces slate of events for Fall 2011

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Outdoor Adventure Program International [OAPI] is offering a series of fall adventures and activities for campus and community members to enjoy, including an Acadia Adventure Weekend, paintballing and geocaching.

UMPI celebrates Homecoming 2011

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is hosting another jam-packed Homecoming celebration from Friday, Sept. 23 to Sunday, Sept. 25, offering everything from a reunion concert by Too Far North and a new triathlon race to socials, athletic events, alumni games and the annual Hall of Fame dinner. Alums are slated to return to campus from across the country and as far away as Australia for this year’s Homecoming weekend.
