UMPI students collaborate with TAMC on writing project

Students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle recently collaborated with TAMC’s Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill on a unique writing project that took them out of the classroom. This spring, three students from Dr. Deborah Hodgkins’ Creative Nonfiction Workshop course—Virginia White, Megan King, and Melissa Lizotte—travelled to TAMC’s long term care facility to interview patients about their life experiences so they could write biographical profile stories based on the interviews.

UMPI, Red Cross to host Super Blood Drive

The American Red Cross and the University of Maine at Presque Isle are teaming up to pull off the University’s 10th “Super” Blood Drive this summer, the time of year when the need for blood increases. The Super Blood Drive will be held from 12 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13 in the Campus Center’s MPR.

Employees honored during annual recognition event

The University of Maine at Presque Isle honored several employees for their years of service during the annual Employee Recognition reception held on May 30. Thirty-four employees were recognized for their combined 395 years of service to the University.

UMPI’s Reed Art Gallery presents Recent Acquisitions exhibit

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery will present Recent Acquisitions, an exhibit showcasing recent artwork donated to the University by acclaimed artists and their foundations, from June 2 through August 11, 2017. All four featured artists–John Paul Caponigro, Andy Warhol, Joyce Tenneson and Bernard Langlais–have been the focus of exhibits in the Reed Art Gallery during the past few years. The public is invited to view the exhibition throughout the show’s run and attend the Gallery Reception on Friday, June 2, from 5-7 p.m., which is being held in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk.

UMPI students hold pop-up art show

On Friday May 12, 2017, three students from the University of Maine at Presque Isle Fine Arts program–Mollie Hicks, Monica Quist, and Arianna Forbes–are coming together to create a fun, pop-up exhibition to feature their finished works and studies of the human form. This one-day-only show, titled Body: An Exhibition of the Human Form, will take from 6-8 p.m. at 551 Main St., Suite 3, just behind Precision Tattoo, and is free and open to the public.
