A cappella group Ball in the House takes stage at UMPI

Published:

A cappella returns to the University of Maine at Presque Isle when Ball in the House takes the stage in Wieden Auditorium on Wednesday, March 2 at 7 p.m. This night of musical harmony is free and open to the public.

Ball in the House takes a cappella to a new level: the redefinition of the entire a cappella genre, they have everything you would expect from a world-class R&B/pop/soul group, except instruments. The Boston-based, five-member veteran vocal band follows in the path of classic harmony groups like Boyz II Men, The Temptations and Take 6, while incorporating the pop and neo-soul influence of artists like Bruno Mars, Daft Punk, and Pharrell Williams.

With over 250 stops a year on their touring calendar, Ball in the House reaches millions and is arguably one of the busiest and most successful indie bands in the country. They are also the voices behind all of TV and radio’s Kraft Cool Whip commercials. Over the years, they have performed with several artists, including The Beach Boys, Gladys Knight, Lionel Richie, Blondie, Kool & the Gang, KC & The Sunshine Band, Jessica Simpson, and Smokey Robinson.

Ball in the House has appeared on The TODAY Show, America’s Got Talent, The Daily Buzz, and the Philadelphia 4th of July Parade. They’ve also received several awards and honors, including the 2013 Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities Band of the Year and honorable mentions in the 13th and 16th Annual Billboard World Song Contests. They were also top 10 finalists in MTV’s 2006 The Next Big Thing Contest.

Coming off of successful college tours from Florida to Illinois and everywhere in between, every Ball in the House audience leave not only entertained, but also hungry for more. Group members include Wallace Thomas, Ben Detty, Montario “Monty” Hill, David Guisti, and John Ryan.
