4/21/2020 – Message from President Rice to campus

Dear UMPI Community,

I am including the message that came out just this morning from the Chancellor in regards to plans at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and across the Maine System to be prepared to open our campuses this Fall 2020 as planned in our academic calendars.  This means that “normal” classes would commence, live and online, on August 30.  Our summer classes remain entirely at a distance/online.  I am especially proud of the leadership illustrated by the University of Maine System and each of its campuses– including Presque Isle– in regards to our response to the pandemic, and especially pleased, as noted by the Chancellor, that we will be coordinating with the Governor’s office and Maine CDC (as we have throughout this crisis) through our Fall 2020 Safe Return Planning Committee in preparations for a safe return to our campuses.  We will, of course, keep you apprised of the situation as it continues to unfold.

For those who wish further information, please note that the “Return to Campus Edition” of the Presidential Tour is at 6:30 PM tonight, Tuesday, April 21. The presidents of Maine’s public universities will be discussing plans to welcome students back to campus safely this fall and taking questions from students and families in a special edition of the Presidential Tour streamed live at 6:30 PM on the UMS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel.

Be vigilant and safe,

Ray
